Family Guy’s Brian runs over Dean Koontz
(part of my ongoing Unexpected Literary References series)
Though the episode is quite old, I caught this reference to Stephen King and Dean Koontz in the episode called “Brian in Love” from season 2 of Family Guy. On the surface, the gag speaks simply to the poor man’s Stephen King perception of Dean Koontz. But, when you consider the real life car accident that Stephen King suffered in 1999 the gag gets way gaggier.
Forgot that episode! Funny! Not a Stephen King fan to be honest… is it worth giving Koontz a shot?
One of my faves–though I’d rather they take the piss out of S.K. for the horrendous butchering he did when “adapting” Lars von Trier’s “The Kingdom” (brilliance) into his (piece of dogshit) series on ABC “Kingdom Hospital”.
Did you already do the episode where Lisa goes to college and hangs out with…I believe it’s Pynchon…fuck…is it Pynchon? anyway, it’s good shit.
Yep, got that one (here: https://calebjross.com/lit-references/great-unexpected-literary-references/). You are the kindest, Pablo.
Yeah, that’s the Pynchon, awesome. But I was thinking of Robert Pinsky–he does a poetry reading at some shitty college dive while Lisa is pretending to be a college student. He gets upset that she left without chipping in for the pizza…or am I imagining this episode, haha

Dean Koontz is so much better than Steven King. I’ve probably read ten of Koontz’s books, & each one has it’s own terrific charm.
